Private Full-Day Tour of Kbal Spean & Banteay Srei

Adventures

Explore the ancient ruins of Kbal Spean, hidden deep within the Cambodian jungle, where hundreds of fascinating Hindu lingams are carved into the riverbed. Then continue southbound to Banteay Srei to discover a 10th-century temple adorned in elaborate artistry dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva.

Rendezvous with your professional guide at your hotel lobby and board a comfortable off-road vehicle en route to the ancient ruins of Kbal Spean, commonly referred to as The River of a Thousand Lingas. Marvel at hundreds of small symbolic sculptures carved into the sandstone riverbed in honor of the Hindu gods Vishnu and Shiva. The river flows into Tonle Sap Lake, where it once provided water to rice fields via a complex irrigation system. Centuries of jungle overgrowth buried the archaeological site until Jean Boulbet rediscovered it in 1969.

Continue onward to explore the Angkor temple of Banteay Srei, constructed in the 10th century in honor of Shiva. The red and pink sandstone structure is miniature in scale compared to other Angkor temples, but the elaborate sculptures delicately carved into the walls reveal a supreme level of masonry unlike any in the region.

Your final stop is Banteay Samre, another well preserved Ankor temple made of the same stone found in Banteay Srei though in a much larger scale. It features an interior moat lined with red laterite that creates an ethereal atmosphere when filled with water. The tour concludes with a return trip to your hotel.
